The Raconteurs

Posted by michelle on June 10, 2008

Ryan and I went to Detroit this past saturday to see the Raconteurs play at the Fillmore. we had planned on getting there early and getting a good spot in the front, but since my accident that was pretty much out of the question because i would be getting stepped on and bumped into constantly.

I was able to talk to the Fillmore manager and found out what to do for ’special seating’ during the show. they let me have a chair in a roped off handicapped section. i was able to stand for most of their set and put most of my weight on my ‘good’ leg.

The concert was great, i just wish that i was able to be closer and jump around a bit more :P maybe next time.

update on my foot

Posted by michelle on June 5, 2008

I went to the orthopedic surgeon today and he said I don’t need surgery. yay!

I need to wear the air cast aka boot for a while until I can walk without pain and the swelling could take months to fully go away. I have to put ice on it for a few days then heat. I can walk on it but mostly on my heal then I can try tennis shoes.

so I lucked out, no major problems.

my car accident

Posted by michelle on June 5, 2008

so I completely totaled my car yesterday. it was so awful and scary. I am really lucky that most of my injuries are just bumps and bruises. after seeing my car and the other girls car I feel lucky to have walked away from the accident.

I was going 45 and getting ready to go through a green light at a service drive, there was a stalled car in the left lane with 4 cars stopped behind it waiting to get around. I get into the intersection and see a lady turning left into the service drive. I swerve right to avoid her and hopefully end up in the service drive. I don’t even know if I had time to hit the breaks. apparently she couldn’t see with all those stopped cars so she just decided to go. smart.

she hit my front drivers side area and flung me into a F250 truck that was coming out of service drive. her whole front end was smashed and her windshield was too and both of her airbags went off. I don’t think she was wearing her seatbelt either. she was in such shock she couldn’t even get out of the car so I helped her out. she went to the hospital in an ambulance.

my injuries:
bruised left shoulder and chest from seatbelt
sore back/neck
bruised knees, hips, stomach & left foot
hands and wrist bruises/burns from airbag

ryan picked me up and took me to the hospital. I was there for over 4 hours and it sucked. they took blood, did xrays, cat scans, EKG, and more. everything came back good except an xray of my foot.
it turns out that I have a possible lis franc injury. its a foot strain of a tendon and if it doesn’t heal right I might need surgery. but an orthopedic doctor needs to check me out to make sure.

so until I can see him I’m wearing a very attractive boot and I have crutches because I am not supposed to put any weight on it.

I am going to be resting for the next few days and taking vicodin and motrin in hopes that I can make it to the raconteurs concert on saturday and work on monday.
